Swimming 2016 – 17

This year the swimming has been extended to include Year 3 as well as Year 4. Each class will be given one ½ hour lesson on a Thursday at the John Charles Sports Centre. The facilities at the centre are excellent and they can even boast a pool floor which can be lowered or raised to suit the different abilities of the swimmers.
The swimming instructors follow the ASA School Swimming Framework
The primary aim of these sessions is to enable the children to learn lifelong swimming skills which will keep them safe, increase fitness and provide enjoyment.
Government guidelines recommend that all children should be able to swim 25m by the time they leave primary school. With this in mind, the school awards the following certificates to encourage the children to work towards this target: 5m float, 10m float, 5m, 10m,15m, 20m, 25m.
